How to configure Dial-up Networking for Windows NT 4.0

Resolution

In NT 4.0, double click on My Computer. Double click on Dial Up Networking. Press OK if asked to add an entry or press New if an entry already exists. To edit an existing entry, right-click on the icon, choose Properties, then Edit.

On the Basic tab, enter the following:

Entry Name: GCI.net
Phone number: enter local access number for your community. Anchorage 2224638, click here for statewide local numbers.
Dial using: Select the COM port your modem is installed on
After Dial Using press the Configure button
Ensure modem parameters are set to initial speed of 57600 or higher, Enable hardware flow control and Enable modem error control. Press OK.

Under the Server Tab, select the following:


Dial-up Server Type: PPP Windows NT, Windows 95, 95 Plus, Internet.
Under Network Protocols: Select TCP/IP and uncheck anything else.
Check Enable software compression.
Check Disable PPP LCP extensions.
Press the TCP/IP Settings button. Under TCP/IP, select:
Server assigned IP address.
Server assigned name server address.
Under Primary and Secondary Wins, you should see all zeros
Check Use IP header compression
Check Use default gateway on remote network.

Under the Script Tab, select nothing.

On the Security Tab, check Accept any authentication including clear text. Click OK.
